Excited-state density distributions in neutron-rich nuclei

چکیده
We calculate densities of excited states in the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) with Skyrme interactions and volume pairing. We focus on low-energy peaks/bumps in the strength functions of a range of Ca, Ni, and Sn isotopes for J π = 0+, 1−, and 2+. We define an “emitted-neutron number,” which we then use to distinguish localized states from scattering-like states. The degree of delocalization either increases as the neutron-drip line is approached or stays high between the stability line and the drip line. In the 2+ channel of Sn, however, the low-lying states, not even counting surface vibrations, are still fairly well localized on average, even at the neutron drip line.

Fragmentation of very neutron - rich projectiles around 132 Sn
We propose an experiment to isotopically identify and determine the production cross sections of residual nuclei in the fragmentation of very neutron-rich nuclei around Sn produced in the fission of relativistic U primary projectiles. These measurements will provide valuable information about a possible two-step reaction scheme (fission-fragmentation) to optimise the production of extremely neu...
متن کاملRelativistic Description of Exotic Collective Excitation Phenomena in Atomic Nuclei
The low-lying dipole and quadrupole states in neutron rich nuclei, are studied within the fully self-consistent relativistic quasiparticle random-phase approximation (RQRPA), formulated in the canonical basis of the Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model (RHB), which is extended to include the density dependent interactions. In heavier nuclei, the low-lying E1 excited state is identified as a py...
متن کاملStellar weak decay rates in neutron-deficient medium-mass nuclei
Weak decay rates under stellar density and temperature conditions holding at the rapid proton-capture process are studied in neutron-deficient medium-mass waiting-point nuclei extending from Ni up to Sn. Neighboring isotopes to these waiting-point nuclei are also included in the analysis. The nuclear structure part of the problem is described within a deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock + BCS + quasip...
متن کاملNeutron Shell Breaking in Neutron-Rich Neon Isotopes
The breaking of the N=20 shell gap in neutron-rich nuclei is investigated by studying the single-particle structure of 27Ne via neutron transfer onto a 26Ne beam. The observation of low-lying negative parity states in 27Ne above the 3/2+ ground state is further evidence of the raising of the νd3/2 orbital that is seen in other neutron-rich nuclei in the N=20 region. The previously unseen 7/2− s...
متن کاملModes of decay in neutron-rich nuclei
We calculate the ground, first intrinsic excited states and density distribution for neutron-rich thorium and uranium isotopes, within the framework of relativistic mean field(RMF) approach using axially deformed basis. The total nucleon densities are calculated, from which the cluster-structures inside the parent nuclei are determined. The possible modes of decay, like α-decay and β -decay are...
